Genetic Transfer Technology big success
Press release, February 2009
In November 2007, Apex Group of Companies introduced the Genetic Transfer Technology for manufacturing UniCorr® metering rolls. Meanwhile, many trials were done at major machine manufacturers in the Corrugated industry and Apex manufactured more than 400 UniCorr® rolls for approximately 150 users.
Often heared comments in the market are “we use the same metering roll for heavy full tones and fine screen jobs with a very good quality in one run”, “UniCorr® L decreased the down time of our printing press” and UniCorr® L has shown significant cleaning improvements”.
Since Drupa, in May 2008, the project started running well in the Flexible Packaging industry as well. Apex has produced more than 220 UniFlex® metering rolls for over 100 users. These customers operate in different segments of flexographic printing on flexible packaging, such as film & foil, paper, sacks, bread bags, tissue/napkins and they use all kinds of inks, such as solvent based, water based, UV based and even E-Beam.
The fundament of the Genetic Transfer Technology is a combination of the special developed ceramic layer with a new laser engraving method. The concept behind Genetic Transfer Technology is using only a few standardized metering rolls and still be able to print the whole scale of print possibilities. Different patterns are available and tuned for special applications.
The products available within G.T.T. are: UniCorr® for Corrugated, UniFlex® for Flexible Packaging and UniCoat® for Coating/Offset. The printer can choose from a number of profile types, defined as S, M, L, XL. As an example, approximately 70 % of all applications within Corrugated can be printed with UniCorr® L!! This makes clear that the technology brings standardization into Flexoprinting.
The technology is patent-pending! And recently, the Genetic Transfer Technology is nominated for “Best Innovation in Printing Press & Finishing” by the renown British magazine FlexoTech.
